A warm welcome to my new segment: Friday's Food for Thought. A weekly column on the three things I am reading, watching, and testing right now.
This first week includes a valuable bonus tip at the end. Let's go:
What I am Reading
Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life. This week, I was thrilled to read a book about long-lasting happiness, how to live longer, be more productive, and be more gracious towards others.
This book, which came out in 2016, is called Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles.
I started the book with zero knowledge about Japanese culture and ended it with a newfound admiration for the Japanese people.
What I am Watching
I am not sure I would really call myself a minimalist, but I know that I am working hard on simplifying my life. One of the big things I do is getting rid of stuff that is not important.
The Minimalists: A documentary about the essential things is airing on Netflix, and it has been on my mind lately. In the movie, the two main guys behind the movement and lifestyle are clearing out their lives and home; everything from sentimental items to things they thought were necessary turns out to be a distraction to their lives.
I have started a plan to get rid of one thing every day until the end of August. This week I have sold stuff like an unused Apple TV and a wrong size sports jacket.
What I am Testing
I am currently testing the LMNT Recharge electrolyte drink. I have been using it for two days, after my walking meetings.
I will do a more detailed review in a few weeks. My first impression about this drink is that it tastes salty; however, it does not leave a weird aftertaste in your mouth.
Stay tuned for my full review, including how well it replenished my electrolytes, whether I felt more energized afterward, and whether it gave me the same "pick-me-up" like other energy drinks.
Bonus: What I am Eating on Friday, July 30
I had a healthy miso soup for breakfast. It was delicious. I am not dieting. I'm just trying to eat healthy every morning. My breakfast:
- 50 gr of cooked brown rice with a dash of MCT C8 oil, ground cinnamon, berries, seeds, and nuts;
- A grapefruit sliced in parts;
- A cup of miso soup.
